Virginia suspends admissions at Pines youth treatment center; Arlington follows suit

Virginia has suspended admissions and downgraded the license of a Norfolk-based owner of treatment centers for troubled youth following a series of violations, including the mishandling of a sexual abuse complaint that prompted North Carolina to consider removing its kids from the centers.  Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services spokeswoman Meghan McGuire said Monday the agency issued a provisional license for three homes operated by The Pines Residential Treatment Center.  North Carolina officials threatened last week to pull 113 residents from the centers after finding the owner did not report a boy’s claims that he was sexually assaulted by another resident.
